Choose a setting that can answer the care questions
A room and a screen still need a clear route for assessment and follow-up.

Compare the work the visit needs to do
Whether the appointment is in a clinic or through licensed telehealth, ask who makes the assessment and how you receive the decision.
The Federation of State Medical Boards expects care requirements to stay the same whether patient and doctor share a room or meet online.
That is board guidance, not a guarantee about a particular service.
Ask what happens when more is needed
The board guidance says a doctor must arrange needed tests or send you for further care when the assessment calls for it.
Ask where an examination or test would happen. Ask who reads the result and who explains what it means for the proposed plan.
For an online visit, add the location question
The location that matters for telehealth licensing is the patient’s during the appointment, according to the September 26, 2026 record.
Ask how the service handles travel between states. Find out how to reach the person treating you later, and ask which concerns would need care near you.
Compare the answers rather than deciding from the word “online” alone.
What to compare
Assessment, access to answers and follow-up belong on the same comparison sheet.
